Baptism is the source of all Christian life. Through this Sacrament of Initiation, the baptized person is washed clean of Original Sin (and all actual sins), becomes an adopted child of God, a member of the Church, and a temple of the Holy Spirit. The person receives sanctifying grace and an indelible spiritual mark.
The Diocese of Providence has created a framework to guide parents through baptismal preparation, supporting them before, during, and after the process. The goal is to strengthen the domestic church and help parents raise the next generation of saints. This approach meets parents where they are in their faith journey, promoting growth at every stage.
Aligned with the diocesan Engage, Equip, Send framework, the program follows the model of the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35), where Jesus engages, equips, and sends disciples. Parents are engaged by a pastor’s invitation, equipped through formation, and sent to live holiness in the domestic church.
